Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Technician II to join our team at the University Health Network. The successful candidate will work under the direction of the Principal Investigator and senior lab staff to carry out a range of laboratory techniques to develop novel biomarkers and treatments for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Generate patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models in mice
  • Assess novel treatment strategies in PDX models
  • Evaluate molecular markers in patient tumor tissues
  • Tissue culture of a range of cell types/cancer cell lines
  • Perform basic molecular biology techniques such as RNA extractions, qRT-PCR, Western blots, etc.
  • Immunostain tumor tissues (immunohistochemistry or immunofluorescence)
  • Maintain organized and detailed lab notes
  • Analyze data (e.g. graphing data)
Requirements
  • At minimum, Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Biochemistry, or similar field, required
  • At minimum, three (3) years related and experience in basic techniques such as cell culture, PCR, gel electrophoresis, Western blots, required
  • Previous experience with handling laboratory mice, required
  • Advanced mouse techniques such as surgical procedures, preferred
  • Additional laboratory techniques such as immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence, confocal microscopy, preferred
  • Flow cytometry experience, preferred
  • Biostatistical data analysis and/or analysis of high throughput data such as RNAseq, preferred
