Job Summary

The University Health Network is seeking a highly skilled Research Technician II to join our team at the Princess Margaret Genomics Centre. As a key member of our core facility, you will be responsible for performing genomics library preparation, quality control, and onboarding of samples from clients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform genomics library preparation (RNA, whole genome, exome) using standardized operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Conduct quality control of input material (RNA and DNA) and final products
  • Onboard samples from clients and communicate with them regarding project status
  • Produce RNA-seq libraries
  • Produce whole genome and exome libraries
  • Construct DNA epigenetic profiling (ATAC, methylation) libraries
  • Perform input sample quality control using BioAnalyzer, Nanodrop, and fluorimetry
  • Perform final library quality control using BioAnalyzer
  • Enter sample and library information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in genomics, molecular biology, or a related field
  • At least 3 years of experience in a related field
  • 1 year of experience with standard molecular biology laboratory techniques, including PCR reaction setup and purification, qPCR reaction assembly and data interpretation, nucleic acid quantification by spectrophotometry and fluorimetry
  • Experience with LIMS is an asset
  • Experience with Illumina DNA sequencing library construction workflows is an asset
  • Ability to learn new techniques and technologies
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work independently and accurately under deadlines
  • Meticulous and detail-oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in a team environment
