We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Human Resource Consultant to join our team at the Southern Chiefs' Organization. As a key member of our HR department, you will provide strategic guidance and support to our leadership and employees, ensuring the effective management of our human resources.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide expert advice on HR policies, procedures, and standards, as well as applicable legislation and regulations.
  • Act as an internal consultant, analyzing and recommending solutions to complex HR issues.
  • Coach and guide managers and supervisors in resolving people issues and implementing effective people management practices.
  • Handle workplace accommodation matters and return-to-work programs.
  • Provide counseling to employees on employment and benefits issues, including disability and rehabilitation, leave of absence, and promotions.
  • Track benefits, probationary periods, doctor's notes, work restrictions, and sick time, making necessary changes and amendments.
  • Provide managers and supervisors with staff probationary dates, anniversary dates, and salary increase information.
  • Maintain and update manual and computerized filing and registration systems, as well as the Human Resource Management System (HRMS), and compile and prepare reports and documents related to HR activities.
  • Provide backup support to the HR team.
Requirements:
  • Undergraduate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Commerce, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in a broad range of HR functions, including employee relations, labor relations, and staffing.
  • Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation is an asset.
  • Current knowledge of standards and legislation related to human resource management.
  • Experience resolving complex employee relations issues, working knowledge of multiple HR disciplines, including compensation practices, organizational diagnosis, employee relations, diversity, performance management, and payroll and benefits administration.
  • Fluency in HRMS, with the ability to run reports and navigate systems.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to proactively manage a high volume of time-sensitive tasks and work.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and influencing skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team member, demonstrating emotional stability and objectivity in challenging work environments.
  • Fluency in Dakota or Anishinaabe language is an asset.
