Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Government of Alberta Full time

Position Overview

Are you interested in contributing to a collaborative work environment where team members support each other's success?

The Director of Legislative Services plays a pivotal role in overseeing a dedicated team that facilitates legislative planning for two key departments: Jobs, Economy and Trade, and Immigration and Multiculturalism. These departments manage a diverse array of policies, legislation, and regulatory initiatives that significantly influence the well-being of Albertans.

This role encompasses the responsibility for legislative strategy, development, assessment, and the management of intricate legislative initiatives, working closely with colleagues from start to finish. The Director is tasked with delivering a comprehensive range of services to departmental clients, which includes drafting legal documents such as bills, regulations, Ministerial Orders, Recommendations for Orders in Council, and delegation instruments.

As the Director of Legislative Services, your key responsibilities will include:

  • ensuring that the statutory and regulatory planning of JET and IM aligns with a cohesive policy and legislative framework;
  • ensuring that all legislative measures are consistent with departmental and Government policies and programs, safeguarding the interests of the Ministry and Government;
  • ensuring that legislative documents meet the governance requirements of the Agency and comply with legal standards; and
  • ensuring that the delegation of legislative authority from the JET and IM Minister aligns with the policy direction of the responsible Ministry.

We seek individuals with strong consultation abilities and political insight, but equally important is the collaborative spirit you bring to the role. You will thrive in our environment if you prioritize delivering high-quality work while fostering positive relationships with your team, clients, and colleagues.

If you are committed to excellence in leadership and cultivating a constructive workplace culture where everyone can contribute authentically, we would be pleased to consider your application.

Welcome to your next opportunity.
