Position Overview

Under the general oversight of the Diagnostic Imaging (DI) Operations Manager, the Diagnostic Imaging Clerk plays a crucial role in supporting the mission and values of Shared Health. This position is responsible for managing requisitions and organizing diagnostic imaging appointments through the Radiology Information System (RIS). The clerk will also serve as a welcoming point of contact for patients, ensuring accurate entry and updates of patient and imaging information within the computer system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and process requisitions for diagnostic imaging services.
  • Schedule examinations and manage patient appointments efficiently.
  • Act as a receptionist, providing assistance and information to patients.
  • Retrieve and manage digital images, including filing and providing access to physicians as needed.
  • Send digital images and reports to various healthcare facilities.
  • Perform additional related duties as required.

Experience

  • Prior experience with PACS is considered an asset.

Education

  • Completion of Grade 12 or an equivalent qualification.
  • Successful completion of a recognized Medical Administrative Assistant Program or a medical secretary program, or the first year of a nursing diploma/degree.
  • Alternatively, completion of a medical terminology course along with one year of experience in a Patient Registration department or a related field.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Typing speed of at least 35 words per minute.
  • Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding English.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Capacity to handle confidential information with discretion.
  • Adaptability to high-pressure situations.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.

Physical Requirements

  • Must be physically capable of assisting patients in wheelchairs.
