THE ROLE

This is an exceptional opportunity for a seasoned healthcare leader passionate about innovation and transformative practices, allowing you to thrive in the picturesque environment of Vancouver Island.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Care will oversee and manage the provision of nursing services to residents, ensuring that care is resident-focused and adheres to established standards, policies, and procedures.

This role encompasses responsibility for the overall care and welfare of residents, supervising a team that includes RNs, LPNs, and Health Care Aides. The position may also involve direct resident care, alongside several supervisory duties.

Funded by Island Health, BC Housing, and philanthropic contributions, we offer a variety of services, including complex care and adult day programs for seniors in the community. Our therapeutic programs, such as music, horticulture, and art, enrich the lives of those we serve.

With a capacity for 130 residents, Eden Gardens operates continuously, employing a diverse workforce that includes registered and licensed practical nurses, health care aides, maintenance and support staff, as well as administrative and management personnel.

YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

As a community-oriented change leader, you bring:

  • A degree from a recognized program for Registered Nurses or Registered Psychiatric Nurses, with current registration from the BCCNM.
  • Proven leadership experience in complex care, with extensive knowledge of nursing and healthcare practices relevant to long-term care.
  • Emotional maturity, good physical and mental health, empathy, patience, and tact.
  • A commitment to ongoing professional development and learning.
  • Post-RN/RPN education in Gerontology and a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with residents, families, volunteers, staff, senior executives, and external organizations.
  • Public speaking skills are advantageous.
  • A solid understanding of relevant legislation, regulations, and collective agreements.
  • Proficiency in information management systems and common industry software.
  • The capability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and implement necessary changes.
  • A combination of education and experience may also be considered.

All employees must be eligible to work with vulnerable adults under the BC Criminal Records Review Program and provide proof of a negative TB screening as a condition of employment.
