Educational Support Specialist

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Educational Assistant to join our team. As an Educational Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting students with diverse needs, promoting inclusive learning environments, and fostering positive relationships with students, teachers, and parents.
Key Responsibilities- Provide individualized support to students with exceptionalities, including those with neuro-diverse needs
- Assist teachers in implementing lesson plans, adapting materials, and modifying instructional strategies to meet student needs
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, families, and school staff to ensure a supportive and inclusive learning environment
- Participate in professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge and skills in supporting students with diverse needs
- Collaborate with teachers and other support staff to develop and implement behavior intervention plans and strategies
- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent
- Experience working with youth, particularly those with exceptionalities
- Post-secondary training in Exceptionalities Worker Program, Special Education, Teacher Education, Early Childhood Education, Social Services, or Medical Services (an asset)
- Experience integrating self-regulation and social-emotional care practices in the classroom (an asset)
- Experience working with Indigenous learners in a culturally diverse community (an asset)
- Experience with restorative justice in a classroom setting (an asset)
- Ability to work effectively with students, teachers, and parents
- Willingness to learn Kaska
- Demonstrates flexibility and adaptability in a dynamic work environment
- Ability to work as a member of a team
- Good organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
- Flexibility to undertake a variety of assignments
- Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with parents and caregivers, establishing cooperative and authentic connections to support the best school experience possible
- Security Clearance (Vulnerable Sector Check) prior to starting work
- Standard First Aid Certificate or a willingness to complete within 3 months
- Completion of the Educational Assistant Module by the end of the 2023/24 school year
