Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Pharmacy Technician to join our team at BC Cancer in Kelowna, BC. As a Pharmacy Technician, you will play a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of medication preparation and dispensing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Process clinically reviewed and approved medication orders for distribution to patients.
  • Receive prescriptions from practitioners and verify their completeness and authenticity.
  • Prepare and process prescriptions by entering orders, counting, measuring, packaging, or re-packaging medications and compounding sterile pharmaceutical products.
  • Ensure the accuracy and completeness of dispensed prescriptions by verifying order entries and performing final checks.
  • Enter and ensure the accuracy and completeness of drug and personal health information in the pharmacy information system.
  • Transfer prescriptions to and receive prescriptions from other pharmacies.
  • Process prescriptions for temporary inpatient leaves of absence by reviewing, translating, and converting existing inpatient medication orders.
  • Maintain accurate records, including medication verification and quality assurance checks.
  • Distribute medications and maintain relevant inventory, wardstock, and narcotic records.
  • Maintain inventory and wardstock levels, fill wardstock and narcotic requisitions, and identify outdated drugs for return or destruction.
  • Perform related clerical duties, such as keyboarding, answering the phone, filing, and maintaining medication and prescription records.
Requirements
  • Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician with the College of Pharmacists of British Columbia.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to deal with others effectively.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
  • Ability to keyboard.
  • Ability to organize work.
  • Ability to operate related equipment.
  • Awareness of and commitment to learning and understanding the Truth & Reconciliation Commission's 94 Calls to Action, In Plain Sight Report, BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act, and other related reports.
