Clinical Extern, Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist

Baycrest Hospital has an opportunity for a Clinical Extern, Physiotherapist/Occupational Therapist to collaborate closely with the interprofessional care team in providing daily care within a supportive role through a therapeutic focus. This ministry-funded unregulated healthcare position will work under the supervision of a regulated healthcare professional and have the platform to develop important clinical skills while increasing their knowledge of a hospital environment.
Key Responsibilities:- Assist with patient mobility, positioning, repositioning, transfers, and ambulation.
- Support PT/OT assigned treatment plans with a functional and/or therapeutic exercise focus, individual or group-based.
- Assist with patient care in collaboration with staff and communicate with members of the interdisciplinary care team as appropriate.
- Support development of patient independence in the practice of scheduling and directing their own care as related to self-care, productivity, and recreation/leisure participation.
- Participate in quality improvement activities, such as supporting social and leisure interaction activities, answering call bells, and triaging patient needs.
- Proof of current enrollment in an accredited PT or OT graduate degree program.
- Bachelor's degree in a health-related field is preferred.
- Ability to work independently and as a part of the interdisciplinary team, and effectively manage challenging situations.
- Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with colleagues at all levels.
- Excellent organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Demonstrated effective critical thinking, analytical, decision-making, and problem-resolution skills.
