Position: Assistant Professor of Biostatistics in Population, Public, Clinical Health, Health Services Research
The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology within the College of Medicine is seeking applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level. This role emphasizes biostatistical methodologies pertinent to population health, public health, clinical research, and health services research.
Key responsibilities will encompass directing the Clinical Research Support Unit (CRSU), engaging in graduate-level instruction, and overseeing graduate student and post-doctoral research initiatives within the department. Additionally, participation in administrative duties, committee involvement, and public service activities appropriate to the faculty rank is expected.
About the Department
The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is a vibrant academic unit with a dedicated team of faculty and associates. We actively contribute to graduate programs and play a crucial role in the undergraduate education of medical and health sciences students, alongside postgraduate training through the Public Health and Preventative Medicine Residency Program.
The CRSU, housed within the department, provides comprehensive research support to faculty, residents, students, and researchers. Services include assistance with study design, sample size calculations, data management, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation. Workshops and short courses on software applications (e.g., SAS, NVivo) for data analysis and research management are also offered.
Current research strengths within the department include child health, Indigenous health, global health, environmental health, social epidemiology, health disparities, and biostatistical applications to chronic diseases. Qualifications
Candidates must possess a PhD in Biostatistics or a related field. Experience in Machine Learning, Bayesian Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or Longitudinal Data Analysis is highly desirable. Post-doctoral experience in relevant biostatistical applications will be considered an asset. A proven track record of research excellence, demonstrated through peer-reviewed publications and the ability to secure external funding, is essential. Strong interpersonal, leadership, and communication skills are required, along with the ability to foster partnerships with diverse stakeholders.
