Assistant Professor of Biostatistics in Public Health
The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is seeking qualified candidates for a tenure-track faculty position at the assistant professor level specializing in biostatistics. This role emphasizes research in biostatistical methodologies applicable to population health, public health, clinical studies, and health services research.
Key responsibilities include overseeing the Clinical Research Support Unit (CRSU), engaging in graduate-level instruction, and supervising graduate and post-doctoral research initiatives within the department. Active participation in administrative duties, committee assignments, and community service relevant to the faculty rank is also anticipated.
About the Department
The Department of Community Health and Epidemiology is a vibrant academic unit comprising 18 faculty members and 34 associates and adjuncts. Our department is dedicated to enhancing graduate education and plays a crucial role in the undergraduate training of medical and health sciences students, as well as postgraduate education through the Public Health and Preventative Medicine Residency Program.
The CRSU, situated within the department, provides comprehensive research support to faculty, residents, students, and researchers across the College of Medicine. Services include assistance with study design, sample size calculations, data management, statistical analysis, and manuscript preparation. Workshops and short courses on software applications (such as SAS and NVivo) for quantitative and qualitative data analysis are also offered.
Current research strengths in the department encompass child health, Indigenous health, global health, environmental health, social epidemiology, health disparities, chronic disease biostatistics, public health practice, and knowledge translation. Our work is grounded in principles of health equity, social justice, and community involvement, supported by partnerships with diverse community organizations and governmental bodies.

Qualifications
Candidates must possess a PhD in Biostatistics or a related field. Experience in Machine Learning, Bayesian Statistics, Artificial Intelligence, or Longitudinal Data Analysis is highly desirable. Post-doctoral experience in biostatistical applications relevant to population health, public health, or health services research will be considered an asset. A proven track record of research excellence, evidenced by high-quality peer-reviewed publications and the ability to secure external research funding, is essential. Strong interpersonal, leadership, communication, and partnership-building skills are required.
The salary range for the Assistant Professor position is $99,945 - $120,099.
