Key Responsibilities

Daily Activities Overview

Leadership and Development of Technical Teams

  • Guide the technical growth of local personnel, leveraging Dillon's comprehensive training initiatives and the expertise of our extensive team of environmental specialists.
  • Offer technical guidance and business mentorship to junior environmental consultants.
  • Participate in team building and recruitment efforts for the Vancouver office.
  • Ensure local team engagement and seamless integration with Dillon's national network of over 120 environmental experts specializing in due diligence, site assessments, remediation, spill response, hydrogeology, and hazardous materials evaluations.

Project Management and Design

  • Provide project management and coordination support to both local and national contaminated site teams, including phased environmental site assessments and remediation efforts.
  • Develop remedial action strategies and assist in designing site remediation alternatives, including conducting feasibility studies for environmental remediation and contaminant management options.
  • Conduct economic assessments, capital cost projections, and operational cost estimates to support remedial design.
  • Familiarity with environmental regulations governing contaminated site work in British Columbia and other jurisdictions.
  • Prepare and oversee health and safety plans for field operations, manage project contracts and agreements, and facilitate subcontractor selection. Build and maintain professional relationships with clients, regulators, service providers, and third-party stakeholders.
  • Prepare and conduct technical reviews of written documentation, including Phase I/II/III Environmental Site Assessments, conceptual site models, remedial options evaluations, and remedial action plans.

Business Development

  • Collaborate with client managers and business unit leaders within Dillon's business development framework to identify and pursue opportunities related to contaminated site assessment and remediation.
  • Create compelling proposals to secure new business.
  • Establish a reputation for expertise in contaminated sites and specialized services, both internally within Dillon and externally with clients.
  • Foster relationships with existing clients while building connections with potential new clients.
  • Travel to various business locations and Dillon offices as needed for client relationship development, project research, and delivery.

Learning and Development

  • Dedicate time to personal development and continuous professional growth.
  • Engage in a learning-oriented environment, providing leadership and contributing to the career advancement of junior and intermediate staff through technical direction, training suggestions, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Enhance Dillon's corporate profile by actively participating in professional associations and committees.
  • Conduct technical research and technology evaluations to support contaminated site remediation and waste management design.

Required Qualifications

Essential Skills for Success

  • A degree in engineering, geology, biology, ecology, hydrogeology, or a related environmental science or engineering field.
  • Certification or designation through The Contaminated Sites Approved Professionals Society (CSAP), Qualified Environmental Professional (QEP), Engineers & Geoscientist British Columbia (EGBC), or equivalent.
  • At least 10 years of experience in environmental consulting or related fields.
  • A strong commitment to enhancing the company's contaminated sites management services through coaching and technical mentoring of staff.
  • Excellent conceptual skills in assessing geological and hydrogeological systems.
  • Strong verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Proven capability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams as well as independently.

Relevant Experience

  • Extensive background in Phase I, II, & III Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater sampling, surface water and sediment sampling, soil vapor sampling, contaminated site remediation projects, and health and safety protocols. Additional experience in hazardous materials assessments, risk assessments, hydrogeological investigations, geophysics, solid waste management, or industrial air quality would be advantageous.
  • In-depth understanding of applicable provincial and federal environmental legislation and policies, including the British Columbia Environmental Code and Environmental Quality Guidelines.
  • Demonstrated success in leading multidisciplinary project teams and driving business development initiatives.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, and plan work to meet deadlines while adapting to changing expectations.
  • Strong skills in proposal and report writing, presentations, and interpersonal communication.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with AUTOCAD, GIS, Surfer, GINT, or database management would be beneficial.

Compensation

Salary range: $76,323 - $140,375

Dillon provides this salary range in good faith based on the successful applicant's education, experience, and skills, as well as internal equity and geographic considerations. Dillon reserves the right to offer compensation outside of this range based on factors unrelated to an applicant's gender or other protected status.
