About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Employment Specialist to join our team at JVS Toronto. As an Employment Specialist - Disability Services, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with disabilities to achieve their employment goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert knowledge and support to individuals with learning disabilities, ADHD, ASD, and mental health challenges to help them find and maintain competitive employment.
  • Conduct orientation and intake, assess clients, and develop individual employment action plans to meet their unique needs.
  • Apply knowledge of employment-related issues, adult learning approaches, and accommodation analysis strategies to support clients in their job search.
  • Provide case management and one-to-one employment counseling to individuals with disabilities, connecting them with job development services and providing support as needed.
  • Develop strategies and program alternatives that cater to each client's disability, including transferable skills analysis.
  • Liaise with community organizations, referring clients to relevant supports and services, and promoting the program to potential clients.
  • Prepare case management documentation, reports, and maintain accurate participant records and case notes.
  • Collaborate with the Employment Source program to provide employment counseling support as needed.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or Post-Graduate Certificate in Counseling or Social Services with placement experience, or a related degree with 3-5 years of counseling experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of learning disabilities, ADHD, ASD, and mental health challenges and their impact on employment.
  • Strong counseling skills, including group facilitation and problem-solving.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to learn systems used by the agency.
  • A clear Police Vulnerable Sector check is required for this position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Strong knowledge of adult learning approaches and certification from an institution, such as VRA Canada or CVRP.
