Job Overview

Position Summary

The Supervisor, Mechanical plays a vital role within the Operations and Mechanical division at Rocky Mountaineer. Reporting directly to the Manager, Mechanical, this position is responsible for overseeing skilled trades teams and ensuring the execution of operational plans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor the frontline mechanical workforce.
  • Manage and assess the workload of the mechanical team, establishing metrics to enhance efficiency.
  • Conduct inspections to validate the quality of workmanship through completion processes.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and ensure ongoing training for team members.
  • Collaborate with team members to address issues promptly and effectively.
  • Facilitate performance planning and management for team members.
  • Oversee hiring, performance assessments, and corrective actions related to workplace incidents.
  • Build strong relationships with internal partners, external suppliers, and contractors.
  • Effectively manage workforce resources and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Conduct safety audits and deliver site-specific safety orientations.
  • Execute maintenance and capital project deliverables to maintain asset reliability.
  • Organize and document maintenance and servicing work orders.
  • Develop and manage Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).

Safety Responsibilities

  • Adhere to Canadian Railway Operating Rules and all safety policies.
  • Implement incident reporting processes to ensure safety and security.
  • Conduct safety audits on employees and contractors.
  • Maintain basic first aid certification.

Operational Duties

  • Implement the RM Maintenance Vision and Operating Plan.
  • Lead mechanical operations within the Operations Centre.
  • Ensure the safe movement of all equipment.
  • Support supply chain initiatives across the network.
  • Train for and perform switching duties as required.

Mechanical Responsibilities

  • Execute the RM Maintenance Vision effectively.
  • Train in equipment operation skills.
  • Assist the mechanical team in troubleshooting equipment.
  • Ensure safety and performance standards for all mechanical personnel.
  • Support project management processes for capital and operational initiatives.
  • Maintain up-to-date training records for team members.

Qualifications

  • Operational knowledge of trades.
  • Relevant mechanical or technical certifications are advantageous.
  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience in mechanical maintenance or construction.
  • Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License.
  • Knowledge of safe heavy equipment operations is preferred.

Skills and Experience

  • Proven ability to lead and motivate skilled trades teams.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining standards.
  • Project management experience is beneficial.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Effective time management and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient in MS Office and computer applications.
  • Excellent communication and leadership abilities.

Work Environment

  • Occasional travel may be required.
  • Work is conducted in a rail industrial setting.
  • 24/7 operations may necessitate varied work schedules.
  • Indoor and outdoor working conditions are expected.
