As a key member of the Group Risk Management (GRM) division, the Senior Manager - Credit Strategy & Data Science will leverage sophisticated analytics to formulate credit strategies aimed at enhancing revenue and managing risk, ultimately optimizing the profitability of the portfolio.
What is the Role?
The RBC Credit Strategy team is seeking a Senior Manager – Credit Strategy & Data Science to oversee the Cards Acquisition team, merging responsibilities of credit strategy formulation with the management of credit talent.
In this position, you will utilize advanced analytics to craft credit strategies that drive revenue growth for RBC while effectively managing risk to enhance portfolio profitability. You will also be responsible for nurturing the development of a skilled credit team within the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Employ data mining, profitability modeling, and business acumen to guide lending decisions for credit card programs, including Line Management and Transaction Authorizations.
- Enhance the profitability of RBC's retail credit card portfolio by analyzing, designing, and proposing credit strategies.
- Collaborate with senior management and Group Risk Management partners to refine and implement these strategies.
- Support the execution and ongoing integrity of credit strategies within relevant systems.
- Create financial models to simulate potential outcomes of strategic decisions, assess actual results against expectations, and drive continuous improvement based on findings.
- Generate insights to improve credit strategies through methodologies such as Design of Experiments (DOE), Foundational Testing, and Challenger/Champion testing.
- Assist in attracting, developing, and establishing a highly skilled analytical credit team.
- Design and implement management systems to cultivate a top-tier credit analyst team.
- Explore new methodologies and tools to enhance models and strategies, fostering innovation within credit strategy frameworks.
Qualifications for Success
Essential Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of progressive analytics experience, particularly in advanced risk analytics and strategy design for lending products.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, with a solid understanding of credit risk fundamentals and financial modeling.
- Proficient in SQL, Excel, SAS, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Experience with modern analytical tools and technology stacks, including Python, GitHub, AWS, and HDFS.
- Familiarity with Data Visualization tools such as Python (Matplotlib, Plotly, Seaborn) and Tableau.
- Ability to cultivate effective and collaborative relationships with stakeholders and remote teams.
- Capable of designing and delivering impactful presentations to senior management and other stakeholders.
- Proven track record of delivering high-quality, accurate work while managing multiple tasks and shifting priorities. A university degree in a quantitative field (e.g., statistics, engineering, economics, finance, computer science) is required to demonstrate critical thinking, data analytics, and financial modeling skills.

- Experience in leading a team of high-performing analysts.
- Familiarity with adaptive control software and credit scoring technologies.
- Ability to navigate both business and technical environments effectively.
- 3+ years of relevant experience in a similar role.
