Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Family Medicine Physician to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing comprehensive primary healthcare services to patients of all ages and stages of health or illness.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Deliver High-Quality Patient Care: Ensure the delivery of comprehensive primary health care services to patients, including routine check-ups, health screenings, and treatment of acute and chronic conditions.
  2. Manage Patient Workload: Be accountable for appropriate workload and practice, ensuring timely and efficient delivery of patient care services.
  3. Collaborate with Healthcare Providers: Continuum of patient care with health care providers within your practice and/or community, ensuring seamless coordination of care.
  4. Provide Community-Based Care: Provide care and coordination of community-based care, secondary and tertiary level health care, and build to capacity within the first two years.
  5. Operate within Healthcare Guidelines: Operate within the Bylaws and Rules and Regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority, ensuring compliance with all relevant healthcare standards.
  6. Improve Patient Access: Work toward same day or next day access for the practice population, ensuring timely and convenient access to healthcare services.
  7. Collaborate with Team Members: Work in collaboration with other team members in the practice to best suit the community's health needs, ensuring a team-based approach to patient care.
  8. Provide After-Hours Access: Work with other providers to provide after-hours access and emergency coverage when required, ensuring continuity of patient care.
  9. Participate in Quality Improvement: Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities, ensuring ongoing improvement of patient care services.
  10. Utilize Electronic Medical Records: Utilize an electronic medical record (EMR) and record all relevant patient details in a provincially approved EMR which is accessible to all collaborating team members.
Qualifications
  1. Eligibility for Licensure: All applicants must be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia (CPSNS).
  2. Eligibility for Certification: All family physicians must be eligible for certification with the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC).
  3. Emergency Department Experience: Experience working in an emergency department is an asset.
  4. Advanced Life Support Training: Advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), advanced trauma life support (ATLS), basic life support (BLS), and pediatric advanced life support (PALS) training are required.
  5. Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association: Membership with the Canadian Medical Protective Association (CMPA) is required.
