Position: Nuclear Medicine Technologist - PET Imaging Specialist

Organization: PHSA

Location: British Columbia

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute comprehensive clinical PET/CT imaging, which includes selecting suitable imaging protocols, positioning patients, conducting image acquisition, and reconstructing data for the PET physician's review.
  • Prepare patients for scanning by thoroughly explaining the procedure, addressing any questions, and securing informed consent prior to the scan.
  • Conduct technical tasks such as correlating clinical history with the imaging examination, recording baseline vital signs, establishing venous access for radiotracer administration, and monitoring blood glucose levels before the injection.
  • Ensure patient safety throughout procedures by monitoring vital signs and observing for any signs of distress, responding to emergencies in line with facility protocols, including potential cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Operate PET and CT imaging equipment in compliance with established operational standards.

Qualifications

  • Certification from the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologists (CAMRT) in Nuclear Medicine.
  • A minimum of three years of recent experience in the role of a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
  • Completion of formal education in PET/CT, such as the CAMRT PET/CT certificate program or equivalent training.

Required Knowledge

  • Familiarity with Nuclear Medicine protocols, radiopharmacy practices, and radiation safety regulations.
  • Proficiency in operating PET/CT cameras and associated software applications.
  • Understanding of research methodologies and processes.
  • Strong patient care skills applicable to individuals of all ages.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment and clinical information systems.
