Position: Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) in Secure Units

Role Overview

As a vital member of our healthcare team, you will deliver comprehensive nursing care in accordance with established care plans. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Implementing care protocols and interventions to meet the needs of patients, utilizing approved techniques and administering prescribed medications. You will monitor and document changes in patients' conditions and communicate findings as necessary.
  • Accurately collecting and recording patient health information, ensuring thorough documentation of nursing observations, interventions, and evaluations.
  • Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to assess clinical needs and develop tailored care plans, actively involving patients and their families in the care process.
  • Engaging with healthcare professionals to discuss care strategies and maintain effective communication among all parties involved in patient care.
  • Supporting patients in developing psychosocial skills and personal care routines, employing therapeutic modalities such as group therapy and role-playing.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduation from an accredited School of Nursing with active registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse.
  • A minimum of one year of recent experience in a forensic or acute psychiatric environment, or a combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of psychiatric nursing practices and applicable legislation, including the Mental Health Act and other relevant laws.
  • A solid understanding of mental health issues and treatment methodologies.
  • Commitment to continuous learning about Indigenous rights and reconciliation efforts within the healthcare system.
