Role Overview
The Operations Leader is tasked with overseeing and directing the operational activities and performance at designated facilities. This role necessitates collaboration with various functional teams, including Environment, Land, Manufacturing, and Safety, to ensure seamless communication and operational consistency. The primary goal is to maximize resource utilization and enhance operational efficiency to achieve optimal productivity at minimal production costs.

Key Responsibilities

Safety Management:

  • Adhere to and enforce all Health & Safety regulations and protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with Lafarge's safety policies across all personnel and sites.
  • Engage in the administration and execution of safety initiatives to guarantee their effectiveness.

Human Resource Development:

  • Manage and oversee agreements with site personnel.
  • Take charge of the development, motivation, and training of all operational staff to enhance customer service, operational efficiency, and skill advancement.

Production Oversight:

  • Formulate, implement, and monitor maintenance, production, and distribution strategies to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
  • Facilitate daily communication with local distribution and quality teams to optimize group efficiencies and manage inventory and production outcomes.
  • Review local and national contracts to ensure compliance with expectations and cost-saving opportunities.
  • Plan and monitor financial performance using local/regional tools, manage annual repair budgets, and identify cost reduction strategies through financial analysis.
  • Project profitability and production forecasts to optimize yield while supporting supply chain management to balance inventory and sales requirements.

Customer Engagement:

  • Conduct monthly inventory reconciliations to assist in balancing local inventory levels to meet demand.
  • Coordinate production scheduling in collaboration with local quality teams to enhance product offerings.

Land and Environmental Management:

  • Ensure compliance with all Lafarge and regulatory standards at the site.
  • Assist in developing and managing sustainable mining plans that optimize reserves while minimizing community impact.
  • Collaborate with the Central Environmental Department to establish operational standards that mitigate environmental effects.

Planning and Scheduling:

  • Develop production schedules and engage in the Sales, Production, and Inventory (S.P.I.) process to meet inventory targets while ensuring adequate supply for all stakeholders.

Project Management:

  • Support the Operations Manager in executing assigned projects, including capital investment initiatives, planning, budget management, and contract negotiations.
  • Oversee feasibility studies, project definitions, and scope of work to ensure objectives are met and propose alternatives as necessary.
  • Coordinate system start-up and commissioning, assist in resolving contract disputes, and ensure proper training is provided when needed.

Collaboration with Other Functions:

  • Report directly to the Operations Manager.
  • Supervise superintendents and lead hands, as well as shipping personnel.
  • Work closely with performance teams, quality staff, sales personnel, safety representatives, and finance teams.

Accountability Metrics:

  • Safety: Monitor near misses, accidents, and incidents.
  • Production: Track manufacturing KPIs and maintenance management.
  • Financial: Oversee purchase order approvals and budget compliance.
  • Customer Focus: Manage shipping and quality KPIs.

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • College degree in Engineering or Business, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years in a supervisory or managerial role within a similar environment.

Skills:

  • Understanding of accounting principles is advantageous.
  • Strong organizational and planning capabilities.
  • Proficiency in various computer applications.
  • Knowledge of the aggregate industry is preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong analytical, research, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Effective time management and self-direction.
