Under the supervision of the Family Preservation Manager, the Cultural Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in designing and delivering culturally relevant programming, life skills training, parenting workshops, and therapeutic sessions for families in Southeast communities. By employing a variety of engaging presentation techniques, the Coordinator builds trust and encourages participation, ensuring that programs are delivered in-person to maximize impact. This position involves the creation, execution, and facilitation of activities that resonate with and uplift families.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct research, organize, and deliver programming that encompasses cultural and land-based activities, parenting initiatives, pre-employment training, life skills workshops, recreational programs, and therapeutic groups.
  • Foster an engaging and empowering atmosphere for program participants while ensuring a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Develop interactive presentations and lead group activities that cultivate meaningful relationships.
  • Assess and adapt activities and experiences to meet the diverse needs of families.
  • Build and maintain positive, respectful relationships by offering support, guidance, and empowerment.
  • Identify areas for improvement and opportunities to enhance program content and participant engagement.
  • Maintain accurate records related to program activities, including incident reports and attendance logs.
  • Provide logistical support for the Family Preservation Unit's programs, including coordination of events, venue selection, transportation, accommodations, and supply procurement.
  • Assist in the development of budgets and tracking of expenses.
  • Create promotional materials using various design software (e.g., Canva).
  • Respond promptly to inquiries from participants, facilitators, and staff.
  • Safeguard confidential and sensitive information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of two (2) years of relevant experience (an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered), with a Degree or Diploma preferred.
  • Familiarity with Anishinaabe cultural beliefs, values, ceremonies, and teachings.
  • Proven ability to work respectfully and effectively with First Nation communities, including leadership, children, families, and colleagues, with an understanding of the eight Southeast communities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and internet research.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Flexibility to manage a varied work schedule, including evenings and weekends.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Clear Criminal Record, Child Abuse Registry, and Prior Contact Checks.
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for regular travel to communities.
