Position Overview:
In the role of Cost Estimation Specialist, you will be crucial during our pre-construction phase, collaborating closely with project managers, architects, subcontractors, and clients to provide precise cost assessments for construction projects. Your proficiency in cost estimation, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to manage complex project requirements will be vital for the success and profitability of our endeavors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough material take-offs, labor evaluations, and cost assessments for various construction projects, including long-term care facilities, police stations, and affordable housing developments.
- Work alongside project managers and design teams to analyze project plans, specifications, and timelines to uncover potential cost-saving opportunities and value engineering solutions.
- Solicit and assess subcontractor bids and proposals to ensure competitiveness and compliance with project specifications.
- Prepare accurate and comprehensive bid packages, proposals, and tender documents for submission to clients and stakeholders.
- Stay informed about industry trends, material costs, and construction methodologies to support accurate cost assessments and budget forecasts.
- Engage in project kick-off meetings, pre-bid meetings, and site visits as necessary to gather relevant project information and address any technical or logistical challenges.
- Contribute to the development and enhancement of standardized estimating procedures, templates, and tools to optimize the estimating process and improve efficiency.
- Collaborate with project teams during the transition from pre-construction to construction phase to ensure alignment of cost estimates with project budgets and timelines.
- Provide ongoing support and expertise to project teams throughout the construction phase, including value engineering assessments, change order management, and cost tracking.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in construction estimating, preferably within the commercial, institutional, or residential construction sectors.
- Proficiency in construction estimating software such as Procore, Bluebeam, or RSMeans.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex project plans, specifications, and contract documents.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, prioritize workload, and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of local building codes, regulations, and construction practices in Ontario is an asset.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE) or Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) are preferred but not required.
