Role Overview

The Forensic Social Work Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the social work department by managing various administrative tasks related to patient care. This position involves collaboration with interdisciplinary teams to ensure effective communication and information flow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide essential clerical assistance to the social work department, including the organization of patient charts and the coordination of information requests from various stakeholders.
  • Act as a liaison between social work staff and other interdisciplinary teams, facilitating the exchange of program-related information and representing the program in meetings.
  • Schedule clinical appointments for the teams and maintain accurate records, reports, and charts in accordance with established protocols.
  • Prepare and distribute packages containing consent forms and questionnaires, ensuring timely follow-up on document returns.
  • Collect and input data into computerized systems, maintaining up-to-date records and generating necessary reports.
  • Establish and manage patient and administrative filing systems, adhering to confidentiality policies and procedures.
  • Upload patient documentation into the database and monitor for any missing information, coordinating with clinical staff as needed.
  • Perform general administrative duties, including managing phone calls, emails, and inquiries from both hospital and community sources.
  • Undertake additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of a recognized Social Service Worker or Social Service Diploma Program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Solid understanding of social work principles, mental health, and substance use services.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proven organizational skills with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Adaptability to changing situations and the ability to resolve conflicts efficiently.
  • Proficiency in operating relevant equipment and familiarity with computer software (Windows, MS Word).
  • Physical capability to perform the duties associated with this role.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is advantageous.
  • Commitment to fostering reconciliation and understanding Indigenous rights as outlined in relevant legislative frameworks.
  • Knowledge of the socio-economic and historical contexts affecting Indigenous Peoples is considered a strong asset.
