About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Specialist to join our team at PHSA. As a Nurse Specialist, you will play a critical role in providing high-quality care to patients with complex mental health and substance use challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct care to patients, including assessing their clinical requirements, developing care plans, and implementing interventions to meet their needs.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure comprehensive care and support for patients and their families.
- Consult with other healthcare professionals to ensure continuity of care and address any concerns or issues that may arise.
- Support patients in developing their psychosocial, life, and personal care skills, including teaching and providing guidance on daily living activities.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for patients, families, and staff, adhering to established emergency procedures and safety protocols.
Requirements
- Graduation from an approved School of Nursing with current practicing registration as a Registered Nurse or Registered Psychiatric Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
- One (1) year of recent experience working in a forensic or acute psychiatric hospital setting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Current and updated knowledge of changes and developments in the practice of psychiatric nursing and of applicable Federal and Provincial legislation.
- Broad knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of behavioral, social emotional, and mental health/psychiatric issues in adults.
- Demonstrated organizational, facilitation, decision-making, and leadership skills.
- Commitment to developing knowledge and understanding of legislative obligations and provincial commitments found in foundational documents, including Truth & Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action (2015), In Plain Sight (2020), BC's Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act (2019), United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP), Reclaiming Power and Place Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women & Girls Calls for Justice (2019), the Declaration Act Action Plan, and Remembering Keegan: A First Nations Case Study.
