We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused ActiVan Specialized Transit Operator to join our team at the Town of Halton Hills. As a key member of our transportation team, you will be responsible for providing safe and reliable transportation services to our passengers, while promoting a positive and professional image of our organization.
Key Responsibilities:- Operate assigned ActiVan vehicle in a variety of weather conditions, ensuring the safety and comfort of passengers.
- Inspect and maintain the interior and exterior of the vehicle, reporting any mechanical issues and completing maintenance requests as needed.
- Assist passengers with disabilities and seniors, including those using wheelchairs and scooters, to board and de-board the vehicle.
- Load and secure wheelchairs, walkers, and scooters using Q-Straint.
- Ensure compliance with Town of Halton Hills policies, procedures, and practices, as well as AODA and Ontario Human Rights Code requirements.
- Log-in to the Automatic Vehicle Locator (A.V.L.) system and utilize it to track passenger pick-ups and drop-offs, communicate with dispatch, and respond to emergency situations.
- Collect cash fare and fare tickets, and complete all necessary reports and forms.
- Respond to emergency situations and ensure passenger safety, following ActiVan emergency procedures.
- Minimum 6 months of job-related experience.
- Secondary School Diploma or equivalent.
- Verbal and written communication skills.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work with persons with disabilities and seniors.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with Halton Hills area/roads and key destinations.
- Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position.
- First Aid and CPR Certification is considered an asset.
The rate of pay for this position with a valid Ontario Vehicle Operator's permit class B or C is $31.73 per hour. The rate of pay for this position with a valid Ontario Vehicle Operator's permit class G is $30.29 per hour. This position may be scheduled to work between 5 – 35 hours per week and involves working shifts including evenings and weekends.
