Position Overview

The Aquatic Programs division within Recreation & Parks is seeking several Water Safety Educators (Level 2) to join our team.

Responsibilities of the Water Safety Educator (Level 2) include:

• Providing outstanding customer service and fostering a welcoming atmosphere for all participants.

• Organizing, sanitizing, and preparing equipment in your assigned area, ensuring all necessary supplies are accessible.

• Designing and implementing program content tailored to participants with varying abilities, including crafting lesson plans, making necessary adjustments, and supplying instructional materials relevant to the program.

• Upholding a safe and orderly environment while documenting participant progress and distributing program feedback forms.

Required Qualifications

Swim Instructor/Examiner certification from The Lifesaving Society

Additional aquatic experience and training will be considered advantageous. Preference will be given to candidates with teaching experience and those who possess one or more of the following certifications: Lifesaving Instructor, Basic First Aid (BFA), Intermediate First Aid (IFA), National Lifeguard (NL), Oxygen Administration (O2), Swimabilities, JLC Coach, and/or Swim Coach Certification.

Work Schedule


• Instructors are required to cover various shifts and must be available for a flexible work schedule.

• Shifts primarily occur on weekdays from 4-8pm and weekends from 9am-1pm, with potential weekday shifts available between 9am and 3pm.

• Instructors are expected to work a minimum of 8 hours per week.

Compensation Details

$26.90 per hour, commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Employment Conditions

The successful candidate will need to obtain a clear vulnerable sector police information check. Proof of educational and professional credentials will be required from the successful applicant.
