Job Description:

The Water Truck Operator's main purpose is to apply accurate amounts of water to gravel in preparation for road construction. The Water Truck Operator is also responsible for promoting and participating in the Goal Zero initiative.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Positively participate in Goal Zero Initiative, including adhering to the Defined Activities as defined for their position.
  • Perform pre- and post-trip equipment inspections and fill out logbooks.
  • Back up equipment efficiently and safely.
  • Responsible for equipment checks and informing mechanics and supervisors of mechanical problems with the equipment.
  • Must be able to identify hazards on site.
  • Must be willing and able to learn general construction practices involving road construction.
  • Must have an understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance.
  • Have the ability to work in an implement safe work practices and contribute to a safe work environment.
Knowledge/Skills:
  • 3-5 years of experience. Must have Class 3 with air endorsement ticket. Ability to drive a manual 18 speed to move the spreader truck from site to site.
  • Must have a good understanding of water duties and road construction procedures.
  • Having loader and roller experience is considered an asset.
  • Must be physically fit to be able to perform all functions of the truck. Must be willing to operate other equipment and help ground personnel with labour intensive tasks as needed/regularly.
  • Must be able to perform duties in tight areas.
  • Must be able to handle loud and very dusty environments at times.
  • Able to perform physical/manual labour for extended periods of time.
  • Able to meet all safety requirements and applicable safety policies.
  • Able and willing to work overtime as required.
  • Ability to meet and adhere to all safety requirements and applicable safety policies, including pre-employment drug, alcohol, and medical testing.
  • Must be willing to join and maintain active membership with the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE), Local 955, if not already a member.
