Position Overview

We are currently seeking a qualified Casual Occupational Health Nurse to become part of our expanding team of rehabilitation and disability management experts, working on-site for our client. As an occupational health nurse, your role will involve delivering health services to all employees, which includes education, promoting positive health practices, treating illnesses and injuries, and following up with ill and injured workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage all occupational work claims (WSIB) including necessary documentation, form submissions, and providing regular updates on claim statuses.
  • Oversee work reintegration and return-to-work processes for both occupational (WSIB) and non-occupational (STD/LTD) claims.
  • Maintain an electronic database of all employee health records (both historical and current).
  • Track all employees receiving treatment for work-related illnesses and injuries.
  • Oversee the Medical Surveillance program in collaboration with a Physician.
  • Provide OHU metrics as required by the functional site manager.
  • Conduct health and wellness meetings with employees for work-related issues; recommend referrals as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Environment, Health & Safety to determine when ergonomic assessments are needed to facilitate early return to work.
  • Provide emergency response care and follow-up with First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
  • Work with onsite physicians and other medical professionals to develop patient treatment plans as necessary.
  • Lead and participate in Wellness Programs, including mental health initiatives within the organization.
  • Develop educational programs focused on mental first aid.
  • Educate site staff and management as required.
  • Advise management and employees on mental and physical health issues.
  • Create and manage disease prevention initiatives promoting exercise, healthy eating, and smoking cessation.
  • Collaborate with EHS to gather necessary hazard and health data to investigate the effects of specific exposures on workers.
  • Work with business leaders to reduce the costs associated with disability claims and other health-related expenses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for Success

  • Must be a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of experience as an RN is required.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certifications are essential.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of disability legislation and regulations, including Duty to Accommodate, Employment Equity Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights Legislation, Accessibility Ontario Disability Act (AODA), and Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Occupational Health Nursing is a valuable asset.
  • A diploma (DOHN) and/or Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN-C) is advantageous.

  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all areas of responsibility.
  • Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in computer applications including Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
