About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and skilled Accredited Counsellor to join our team at Optima Health (OH&W). As an Occupational Health Specialist, you will provide confidential counselling and related proactive functions to staff and officers within the context of a multi-specialist occupational health team.

Main Responsibilities
  • Conduct Weekly Psychological Screening Appointments: Provide confidential counselling and psychological screening appointments with clients in vulnerable roles.
  • Facilitate Support Groups: Facilitate support groups with officers & staff, focused on various mental health topics, such as bereavement and substance misuse.
  • Provide Crisis Counselling: Provide crisis counselling based on case-by-case need as specified by the Clinical Lead.
  • Deliver Trauma Interventions: Deliver trauma interventions, including major and critical incidents as reported, in accordance with Optima and MPS policy.
  • Manage Caseload: Manage own caseload, delivering short-term (up to 6 sessions) counselling for clients with personal or work-related issues, aiming to return staff back to full duties.
  • Intermittent Support: Intermittent, longer-term support to suspended officers.
  • Advice and Support: Advice/support to managers about counselling services and managing a duty mailbox for urgent assessments of clients.
  • Psychological Risk Assessments: Conduct psychological risk assessments for referrals from managers and other occupational health departments, acting according to MPS risk management protocol.
  • Problem-Solving Guidance: Offer practical problem-solving guidance and signpost to other external agencies or internal multi-specialist occupational health team, which may include delivering presentations.
  • Evaluate Interventions: Assess officers' needs, plan effectively, monitor and evaluate interventions using evidence-based practice applied to individual needs.
Requirements
  • BACP Accreditation: BACP Accreditation is essential (or equivalent).
  • Experience in Substance Misuse: Experience in substance misuse would be advantageous.
  • Psychological Risk Assessments: Evidence of completing psychological risk assessments and the ability to work autonomously.
  • Brief Counselling Model: Experience of delivering a brief counselling model.
  • IAPT Measurement Forms: Understanding of the use of IAPT measurement forms.
  • Clinical Governance: Knowledge of clinical governance and risk management.
  • Occupational Health Experience: At least 3 years' experience working in a counselling service, occupational health, or related service offering short-term solution-focused therapy.
  • CBT Training: CBT trained practitioners desirable but not essential.
