Position Overview

We are currently in search of a skilled Casual Occupational Health Nurse to become part of our expanding team of rehabilitation and disability management experts, providing on-site health services. As an occupational health nurse, your role will involve delivering health services to all employees, which includes education, promoting positive health practices, treating illnesses and injuries, and following up with ill and injured workers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee case management for all occupational work claims (WSIB), including necessary documentation, form submissions, and regular updates on claim statuses.
  • Facilitate work reintegration and return-to-work processes for both occupational (WSIB) and non-occupational (STD/LTD) claims.
  • Maintain an electronic database of all employee health records, both historical and current.
  • Track all employees receiving treatment for work-related illnesses and injuries.
  • Manage the Medical Surveillance program in collaboration with a Physician.
  • Provide OHU metrics as required by the functional site manager.
  • Conduct health and wellness meetings with employees for work-related issues; recommend referrals as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Environment, Health & Safety to determine when ergonomic assessments are needed to support early return-to-work initiatives.
  • Deliver emergency response care and follow-up using First Aid, CPR, and AED credentials.
  • Work alongside onsite physicians and other healthcare professionals to develop patient treatment plans as needed.
  • Lead and participate in Wellness Programs, including mental health initiatives within the organization.
  • Design educational programs focused on mental first aid.
  • Provide education to site staff and management as required.
  • Advise management and employees on mental and physical health issues.
  • Develop and manage disease prevention initiatives that encourage exercise, healthy eating, and smoking cessation.
  • Collaborate with EHS to gather necessary hazard and health data to assess the impact of specific exposures on workers.
  • Partner with business leaders to minimize the costs associated with disability claims and other health-related expenses.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications for Success

  • Must be a Registered Nurse or Registered Practical Nurse in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO).
  • A minimum of 2-5 years of experience as an RN is required.
  • Valid CPR and First Aid certifications are essential.
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of disability legislation and regulations, including Duty to Accommodate, Employment Equity Act, Workplace Safety and Insurance Act, Human Rights Legislation, Accessibility Ontario Disability Act (AODA), and Occupational Health and Safety Act.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Occupational Health Nursing is an asset.
  • A diploma (DOHN) and/or Certification in Occupational Health Nursing (COHN-C) is advantageous.

  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality in all responsibilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, diplomacy, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in various computer programs, including Electronic Medical Records (EMR), Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
