Veterinary Specialist for Research Animals

Position: Clinical Veterinarian
Primary Role: The Clinical Veterinarian is responsible for managing and delivering diagnostic and clinical veterinary services for laboratory and educational animals, ensuring adherence to all relevant regulations and guidelines. This position also includes contributing to the formulation and execution of Animal Use Protocols.
Work Environment: Under the supervision of the University Veterinarian, the Clinical Veterinarian will work alongside a dedicated team of veterinarians and animal care personnel to provide exceptional veterinary support to the institution's animal care initiatives. Duties encompass clinical care, monitoring animal health, and ensuring compliance with established animal care protocols.
Main Duties:
- Assist the University Veterinarian and work collaboratively with fellow veterinarians to oversee veterinary services
- Guarantee adherence to regulations and best practices in animal welfare
- Address animal care challenges and foster positive relationships with stakeholders
- Act as Facility Veterinarian across various locations
- Provide support in the development of AUPs, anesthesia, and surgical procedures
- Supervise preventive healthcare and enrichment initiatives
- Design and conduct training for animal users
- Support the education of veterinary students and participate in committees
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and pursue professional growth
- Other responsibilities as assigned
Qualifications:
Education: Veterinary licensure with a preference for training or experience in laboratory animal medicine
Experience: Several years of experience as a clinical veterinarian in animal research or private practice
Skills: Comprehensive understanding of animal care regulations, strong communication abilities, and capacity to perform under pressure
The ideal candidate will possess a deep interest in laboratory animal medicine and a dedication to maintaining high standards of animal welfare and research ethics.
