Position: Clinical Veterinarian
Primary Purpose: The Clinical Veterinarian is responsible for delivering diagnostic and clinical veterinary services for laboratory and educational animals, ensuring adherence to all regulatory standards and guidelines. This position also entails involvement in the formulation and execution of Animal Use Protocols.
Nature of Work: Reporting to the University Veterinarian, the Clinical Veterinarian will work alongside a dedicated team of veterinarians and animal care personnel to provide exceptional veterinary services within the institution's animal care program. Key responsibilities include administering clinical care, supervising animal health assessments, and ensuring compliance with animal welfare standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the University Veterinarian and collaborate with fellow veterinarians to oversee veterinary services
- Guarantee adherence to regulations and best practices in animal welfare
- Address animal care challenges and foster positive relationships with stakeholders
- Act as Facility Veterinarian for various locations
- Provide support in the development of AUPs, anesthesia, and surgical procedures
- Oversee preventive healthcare and enrichment initiatives
- Design and implement training programs for animal users
- Support veterinary student education and participate in committees
- Identify cost-effective strategies and pursue professional growth opportunities
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Qualifications:
Education: Veterinary licensure with specialization or experience in laboratory animal medicine preferred
Experience: Several years of experience as a clinical veterinarian in animal research or private practice
Skills: Comprehensive knowledge of animal care regulations, strong communication abilities, and capacity to perform under pressure
The ideal candidate will possess a keen interest in laboratory animal medicine and a dedication to maintaining high standards of animal care and research ethics.
