Join the Animal Care & Research Support team at the University of Saskatchewan as a Veterinary Technician.
We are looking for two Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) to ensure exceptional care for a diverse range of animals, including laboratory species, aquatic life, and exotic animals housed in various specialized environments. These roles will involve a rotating schedule to provide comprehensive coverage across all operational hours, including weekends and holidays, within the University of Saskatchewan's animal facilities overseen by Animal Care Services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct routine daily husbandry, sanitation, animal care, nutritional support, and handling as integral aspects of the role.
- Perform daily health assessments for all animals, including water quality evaluations and maintenance of aquatic habitats.
- Collaborate with and report any health or welfare concerns regarding animals to the facility veterinarian and the Animal Care Manager or Aquatics Manager.
- Administer treatments to sick animals as directed by the facility's clinical veterinarian.
- Oversee and coordinate the use of procedure rooms and surgical facilities.
- Provide technical assistance for various species as necessary.
- Prepare and anesthetize animals for surgical procedures and imaging tasks.
- Assist in surgical operations and manage surgical, anesthetic, and laboratory equipment.
