Job Description

GFL Environmental is seeking a highly skilled Financial Operations Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will play a critical role in supporting business decision-making, operational efficiencies, and financial reporting.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Consolidate operational and financial data from assigned business units for reporting and analysis.
  • Partner with key staff to provide operational data to support financial reporting and decision-making.
  • Work with IT and Operations to ensure effective implementation and operation of IT tools and applications.
  • Develop performance measurements and analyze data to identify trends, outliers, and insights.
  • Work on projects involving sales, operations, fleet, and facility management.
  • Champion systems and process changes within the region, providing training and support.
  • Perform detailed analysis and investigations to identify root causes and provide recommendations.
  • Assist with cost control, cost reviews, and approvals.
  • Assist with forecasting and budgeting.
  • Prepare Authorization For Expenditure (AFE) documents for capital projects.
  • Support the operational team as needed.
Requirements:
  • 2-4 years of operations and/or financial analysis experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel, including pivot tables, and experience with SQL, IBM Cognos/TM1, or similar BI/Analytic tools.
  • Alphanumeric typing speed of 80+ words per minute with high accuracy.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Team player with ability to adapt to changing priorities and assignments.
  • Strong business acumen and ability to build trusted relationships with business leaders.
  • Effective communication skills to present findings and recommendations.
  • Experience interacting with senior management teams and presenting results and strategic priorities.
  • Occasional travel within Ontario and overtime may be required.
