Position Overview

The Thunder Bay Indigenous Friendship Centre is seeking a dedicated Social Services Coordinator to join our team. This is a permanent position that requires a commitment to serving the community and addressing social issues.

  • Work Language: English
  • Hours: 35 hours per week
  • Education: College/CEGEP
  • Experience: 3 to 5 years in a related field or equivalent experience
Work Environment

The role will involve working in various settings, including:

  • Correctional facilities
  • Organizations addressing socio-economic challenges such as housing, nutrition, and unemployment
  • Crime prevention initiatives
Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Conducting interviews with individuals to evaluate their adjustment challenges
  • Preparing pre-sentence reports for offenders
  • Documenting case histories and reports
  • Performing administrative duties
  • Assessing clients' needs for specific services
  • Evaluating offenders' potential for successful community reintegration
  • Developing rehabilitation programs in collaboration with offenders, including setting conduct rules and objectives
  • Preparing classification reports to recommend appropriate interventions
  • Conducting social research
  • Connecting offenders with community and social service programs
  • Engaging with families and community contacts of inmates
  • Assessing clients' skills and development needs
  • Conducting follow-up evaluations
  • Collaborating with other social service agencies and healthcare providers
  • Creating service intervention models and outcome measures
  • Maintaining program statistics for evaluation and research purposes
Supervision

This position may involve supervising a small team of 1 to 4 individuals.

Qualifications

Applicants should possess the following:

  • Cultural Awareness Training
  • First Aid and CPR certifications

  • Young offenders

  • Enhanced reliability security clearance
  • Criminal record check
