Position Overview

Casual Special Needs Educational Support Staff play a crucial role in assisting children and adolescents within educational environments who exhibit a diverse array of abilities and exceptionalities, including autism spectrum disorders, significant emotional and behavioral challenges, mental health concerns, learning disabilities, and physical health issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Addressing the instructional, behavioral, and social requirements of students in a dynamic and multifaceted setting.
  • Aiding in the development, execution, and assessment of individualized education plans.
  • Modifying or adapting classroom resources to cater to the unique needs of students.
  • Supporting students in developing skills in communication and language acquisition.
  • Promoting and facilitating positive interactions among students, staff, and the broader community.
  • Observing student behavior and intervening when necessary to manage challenging actions.
  • Overseeing students during recess, transportation arrival and departure, and in community environments.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Certification as a Special Needs Educational Assistant or a Diploma in Child and Youth Care.
  • A minimum of two years of relevant experience, ideally within an educational context.
  • Capability to function in complex environments that necessitate ongoing supervision of high-risk students.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in applying effective de-escalation techniques.
  • Willingness to accept a variety of assignments as needed.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication abilities (both verbal and written).
  • Proven track record of establishing and maintaining productive working relationships with educators, parents, and students with special needs.
  • Physical capability to perform tasks that may include lifting, transferring, and providing personal care as required.

Compensation

$ - $ per hour

Work Nature

Casual: Hourly, on-call assignments up to 7 hours daily, Monday through Friday.

Temporary: Long-term part-time and full-time roles exceeding 25 cumulative workdays in the same position and location.

Permanent Opportunities: Eligibility to apply for permanent, advertised roles.
