Student Support Facilitator

Championing Student Wellbeing:
The York Region District School Board is seeking applications for a Full-time, Permanent Making Connections Worker. This role is integral to enhancing student success and wellbeing.
The selected candidate will collaborate closely with the school team and Family School Liaison Counsellors, playing a pivotal role in fostering a supportive educational environment.
Reporting to the Clinical Team Lead, you will be instrumental in implementing a robust Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, empowering students to effectively manage life’s challenges.
In addition to classroom support, you will serve as a vital resource for students and families facing difficulties, advocating for their needs and assisting them in overcoming obstacles.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Implement evidence-based mental health initiatives and early intervention strategies within the educational setting.
2. Collaborate with schools to ensure the effective integration of the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.
3. Empower children, youth, and families by developing skills and knowledge necessary for fostering positive relationships within school, home, and community contexts.
4. Facilitate access to community resources for families through referrals, meeting coordination, and transportation arrangements as needed.
5. Advocate for families by liaising with school administration and community partners to ensure they receive appropriate support and services.
6. Coordinate crisis intervention by assisting families in accessing suitable services during challenging times.

Qualifications and Experience:
Preferred qualifications include:
1. A relevant post-secondary degree or diploma in psychology, social work, or a related field.
2. A minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health or health/human services roles (practicum experience considered).
3. Experience working in educational settings with children and adolescents.
4. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
5. Experience collaborating with community agencies and organizations.
6. Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
7. Appropriate insurance coverage for transporting children and families.
