The York Region District School Board is seeking applications for a Full-time, Permanent Making Connections Worker. This role is pivotal in fostering a supportive environment for students, working collaboratively with the school team and Family School Liaison Counsellors.

As a key player in the educational framework, you will report to the Clinical Team Lead and play an instrumental role in enhancing student success. The Making Connections Worker position provides schools with a robust Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum, empowering students to effectively manage life's challenges.

In addition to classroom support, you will serve as a vital resource for students and families facing various challenges, advocating for their needs and assisting them in overcoming obstacles.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement evidence-based mental health initiatives and early intervention strategies within the classroom.
  • Collaborate with educational institutions to ensure the successful integration of the Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum.
  • Empower children, youth, and families by developing skills and knowledge essential for fostering positive relationships in school, home, and community settings.
  • Facilitate access to community resources for families through referrals, meeting coordination, and transportation arrangements as necessary.
  • Advocate for families by working closely with school administration and community partners to ensure they receive appropriate support and services.
  • Coordinate crisis intervention efforts by assisting families in accessing suitable services during challenging times.

Qualifications and Experience:

Preferred qualifications include:
  • A relevant post-secondary degree or diploma in psychology, social work, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in mental health or health/human services roles (practicum experience is also considered).
  • Experience working in educational settings with children and adolescents.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience collaborating with community agencies and organizations.
  • Excellent organizational and time management abilities.
  • Appropriate insurance coverage for transporting children and families.
