Role Overview: Vendor Quality Surveillance Coordinator

The Vendor Quality Surveillance Coordinator (VQS) is responsible for overseeing the implementation of quality plans by vendors and suppliers. This role ensures that vendors demonstrate compliance with specified requirements through objective evidence. The VQS Coordinator may engage at the pre-award stage and continue through to the closure of purchase orders. Reporting to the VQS Lead, the Coordinator collaborates closely with engineering, procurement, expediting, and logistics teams. A thorough understanding of relevant codes and standards, along with the ability to assess vendor compliance, is crucial. The Coordinator will also manage the interaction between QS Inspectors and vendor manufacturing inspection and testing activities, requiring strong planning and interpersonal skills to ensure effective monitoring and surveillance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with engineering to determine the Equipment Criticality Rating (ECR) for each supply item.
  • Work with procurement and vendors to identify points of supply requiring QS Inspector presence.
  • Provide updates to the VQS Lead regarding surveillance levels and forecast hours needed for completion.
  • Facilitate pre-inspection alignment meetings.
  • Implement the VQS execution plan along with associated procedures.
  • Assist the VQS Lead in recruiting and engaging QS Inspection personnel.
  • Coordinate QS Inspector attendance at scheduled inspections.
  • Review outputs from QS Inspectors and manage supplier document reviews.
  • Oversee non-conformance management and resolution processes.
  • Coach and mentor QS Inspection personnel on effective VQS implementation.
  • Participate in the purchase order closure process with procurement.
  • Provide input to the VQS project report for the VQS Lead.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Technical qualifications that facilitate effective communication among all parties involved in product manufacturing, inspection, and testing.
  • Strong technical aptitude and familiarity with various materials, equipment types, and disciplines.
  • Experience in reviewing and interpreting specifications, standards, codes, and statutory requirements.
  • Background in manufacturing quality control and assurance.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or equivalent quality management standards.
  • Understanding of industry standards and regulations applicable to inspection and testing activities.
  • Proven experience in a similar role.
  • Solid understanding of project execution, particularly in an EPCM environment with a focus on materials management.
  • Proficient in computer and mobile device usage.
  • Strong administrative capabilities.

  • 10 years of experience in a similar position.
  • Managerial training.
