POSITION OVERVIEW:

Responsible for ensuring compliance with the HACCP Program, customer specifications, and all regulatory requirements across the facility. This role involves establishing, implementing, and overseeing quality assurance and food safety initiatives to ensure that processing components and other materials meet food safety, quality, and legal standards. Collaborate with direct reports to develop and uphold quality assurance standards, procedures, and controls. Work closely with processing teams to schedule and manage inspection activities, enforcing requirements as dictated by raw materials, ingredients, products, packaging specifications, and regulatory bodies. Initiate corrective actions for any procedural or product deficiencies.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Foster a culture of Food Safety and Quality. Plan, coordinate, and direct quality assurance and food safety programs to ensure consistent production/service aligned with established standards. Maintain and validate various policies and standard operating procedures, including HACCP, GMP & SSOPs, CFIA regulations, BRC, food safety, sanitation, pest control, and internal audit procedures. Oversee the development and analysis of statistical data and specifications to assess current standards and propose quality and reliability expectations. Recommend necessary corrective actions to ensure compliance with quality specifications and standards. Formulate and uphold quality control objectives, coordinating these with production procedures in collaboration with other managers to enhance quality, reliability, and minimize costs. Lead Internal and External Audit programs, demonstrating knowledge and experience with current BRC audit guidelines to ensure plant compliance with SFCR and Corporate Food Safety and quality programs (or equivalent). Proactively manage sanitation-related activities, ensuring food safety is upheld; provide oversight and training to maintain cleanliness and sanitation standards within the facility. Supervise personnel engaged in activities to ensure continuous control over materials, facilities, services, and products. Develop and implement methods and procedures for monitoring work activities, including the preparation of records of expenditures and progress reports, to keep management informed of current work status. Organize and promote training activities related to quality and reliability, including the development of QA staff. Provide hands-on training for on-floor quality assurance technicians. Analyze and resolve work-related issues or assist employees in problem-solving. Manage installation, inspection, and testing procedures for finished products. Collaborate with the Plant Manager to investigate root causes for any product that does not meet specifications and develop necessary improvement processes. Ensure compliance with nutritional, organoleptic, and microbiological standards. Uphold the company's food defense, animal welfare, and foreign animal disease policies and practices. Contribute to the marketing and development of new products by engaging in quality standards and production trials for existing and new products. Address customer complaints regarding quality and implement appropriate adjustments. Ensure enforcement of company health and safety policies on the production line(s) under supervision. Participate as a member of the Plant Crisis Management Team (Recall Team), overseeing the product recall process to ensure timely communication and execution of product recalls, along with the completion of related documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Food Science, Microbiology, etc.) is required. 3-5 years of supervisory or managerial experience in Quality Assurance within a food manufacturing environment, preferably in raw materials and poultry. 2-5 years of experience in quality control lab analysis, food processing, Food Industry HACCP and BRC programs, and quality management. Comprehensive knowledge of quality control and manufacturing operations. Understanding of plant floor dynamics and the interdependencies of operating groups. Extensive practical and technical knowledge of plant processing operations. Familiarity with meat hygiene regulations and CFIA manual of procedures. Ability to represent the company professionally and confidently in interactions with regulatory personnel, auditors, and customer and supplier matters.

CERTIFICATIONS:

HACCP Plant Development and Implementation certification is required. Advanced HACCP-Verification certification. Validation and Auditing of a HACCP System certification is preferred. GFSI training. Animal Welfare certification.
