School Safety Officer

Position Overview:

The primary responsibility of the School Safety Officer is to ensure the safe passage of school children across urban intersections during their commute to and from educational institutions. This role requires strict adherence to all traffic safety protocols and the effective use and upkeep of safety apparatus.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and facilitate the safe crossing of children at designated intersections.
  • Comply with established traffic regulations and safety standards.
  • Document and report any incidents, accidents, injuries, hazards, or suspicious activities to the appropriate authorities.
  • Engage in Occupational Health & Safety tasks as outlined in the Corporation's Health and Safety Program.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be at least 16 years of age.
  • Availability to work during the Elementary School Calendar (September to June) is required.
  • Strong oral communication skills are essential.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Must maintain a high level of concentration and possess the visual and auditory skills necessary to recognize traffic conditions from a safe distance.
  • Capability to safely assist children across busy intersections and respond appropriately to traffic situations.
  • Exhibit a friendly and courteous demeanor with excellent customer service skills.
  • Willingness to perform duties outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • The physical demands of this position indicate a light level of work.
