Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Adult Crossing Guard to join our team at the City of Windsor. As a key member of our Public Works Operations department, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safety of school children crossing city intersections.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist School Children Safely: Provide a safe and secure environment for school children to cross city intersections, adhering to all established traffic safety regulations.
  • Maintain Safety Equipment: Ensure proper use and maintenance of safety equipment, including visual and auditory devices, to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Document Incidents: Document and report any incidents, accidents, injuries, hazards, or suspicious persons/vehicles to the coordinator and appropriate police and/or school officials.
  • Perform Occupational Health & Safety Duties: Adhere to the Corporation's Health and Safety Program, performing duties as outlined to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Other Related Duties: Perform other related duties as required to support the team and ensure the smooth operation of our Public Works Operations department.
Requirements
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 16 years of age to apply.
  • Availability: Must be available to work during the Elementary School Calendar (September to June).
  • Communication Skills: Must possess good oral communication skills to effectively interact with school children, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Supervision: Must have the ability to work effectively and with minimum supervision, demonstrating independence and self-motivation.
  • Concentration and Visual Abilities: Must have the ability to maintain a high degree of concentration, with visual and hearing ability to recognize traffic at a safe distance.
  • Customer Service: Must have a pleasant and courteous demeanor, demonstrating excellent customer service skills to interact with the public.
  • Physical Demands: Must be able to perform the above-noted employment activities outside in all weather conditions, with a light level of physical work.
