  • Experience or a strong interest in working with newcomer youth;
  • Proven ability to lead and facilitate group activities, especially in areas such as leadership, philanthropy, and job-search skills;
  • A proactive approach and a robust work ethic;
  • Excellent teamwork capabilities along with the ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision;

  • Administrative proficiency and familiarity with Microsoft Word and Excel;
  • Access to reliable transportation (mileage will be reimbursed);
  • Current Intermediate (Standard) First Aid and CPR C certification (must be recertified within the last year);

  • Three professional references are required.
Role Overview at YMCA Calgary

Key Responsibilities:

  • Part-time, year-round engagement in a vibrant program (YMAP) that provides support and enriching experiences for high school students;
  • Independently conduct after-school sessions four days a week for youth with diverse English proficiency levels;
  • Facilitate or assist with summer programming for youth during the summer months;
  • Tailor curriculum into daily lesson plans to address student needs;
  • Cover topics such as:
self-esteem, healthy relationships, philanthropy, navigating Calgary transit, resume writing, global initiatives, and cultural awareness;

  • Collaborate within a team of six YMAP Coordinators;
  • Assist in organizing special events for youth;
  • Recruit participants through in-school presentations and individual interviews;
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance records, and program impact narratives;
  • Support program evaluation efforts;
  • Provide drop-in services and referrals for participants as necessary;
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with schools and community organizations;
  • Act as an ambassador for YMCA programs within the community;
  • Ensure a clean and safe working environment.
