About the Role:

The YMCA Calgary is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Program Coordinator to join our team. As a Program Coordinator, you will be responsible for delivering after-school sessions to high school and post-secondary students, providing support and positive experiences for newcomer youth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver after-school sessions in-person and online three days each week from October to June for youth with a wide variety of English levels.
  • Run or support summer programming for youth during July and August.
  • Adapt curriculum into daily lesson plans to meet student needs.
  • Deliver topics including self-esteem, healthy relationships, philanthropy, using Calgary transit, resume writing, global initiatives, and cultural awareness.
  • Work within a team of YMAP Coordinators.
  • Help organize special events for youth.
  • Recruit participants through in-school presentations and one-on-one interviews.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports, attendance, and program impact stories.
  • Support program evaluation.
  • Provide drop-in and referrals for participants when needed.
  • Build and maintain relationships with schools and community organizations.
  • Be an ambassador for YMCA programs in the community.
  • Ensure a clean and safe work environment.

Requirements:

  • Post-secondary education in Social Sciences, Human Services, Education, Social Work or Humanities.
  • Experience and/or desire to work with newcomer youth.
  • Experience in leading and running groups, particularly around topics such as leadership, philanthropy and job-searching skills.
  • Initiative and a strong work ethic.
  • Strong team-work skills as well as the ability to work independently and with low supervision.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Administrative experience and knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Reliable transportation (mileage is reimbursed).
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR-C certification.
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Three professional references.
