About the DepartmentThe Department of Surgery is a leading academic and clinical department within the Faculty of Medicine, with a strong reputation for excellence in education, research, and patient care. The department consists of over 600 physicians, surgeons, scientists, and educators, and is responsible for providing surgical care to patients across British Columbia.
Key Responsibilities- Provide leadership and vision for the Department of Surgery, aligning with the Faculty's strategic goals and priorities.
- Foster a culture of excellence, mutual respect, and inclusivity within the department.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the department's research and education programs.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with health authority leadership, academic partners, and other stakeholders.
- Ensure the department's compliance with regulatory requirements and accreditation standards.
- Hold a senior academic appointment (Associate Professor or Professor) with tenure.
- Have a strong track record of academic and administrative leadership, with experience in supporting faculty development and mentorship.
- Be a recognized expert in the field of surgery, with a strong research and education portfolio.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with diverse stakeholders.
