About the Department

The Department of Surgery at UBC is a leading academic department in the field of surgery, with a strong commitment to education, research, and clinical care. The department consists of over 600 physicians, surgeons, scientists, and educators, and is distributed across nine divisions in British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership and vision for the department, aligning with the Faculty and University's strategic goals.
  • Foster a culture of excellence, mutual respect, and inclusivity within the department.
  • Develop and implement strategies to advance the department's research, education, and clinical programs.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including Health Authority leadership, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Ensure the department's commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion, and promote a culture of respect and empathy.
Requirements
  • Proven track record in academic and/or administrative leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated success in supporting the career development and mentorship of faculty members.
  • Strong record of research and innovation, and/or educational scholarship in an area related to surgery.
  • Experience in team building, fostering engagement, and promoting inclusivity across working and learning environments.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with empathy, understanding, and respect of diverse perspectives and behaviors.
