The department consists of over 600 physicians, surgeons, scientists, and educators, and is responsible for providing surgical care to patients across British Columbia.
Key Responsibilities- Provide leadership and vision for the Department of Surgery, aligning with the Faculty's strategic goals and objectives.
- Foster a culture of excellence, mutual respect, and inclusivity within the department.
- Develop and implement strategies to enhance the department's research and education programs.
- Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including health authority leaders, faculty members, and external partners.
- Make key decisions regarding departmental operations, including budget management and personnel matters.
- Hold a senior academic appointment (Associate Professor or Professor) with tenure.
- Have a strong track record of academic and administrative leadership, with experience in supporting the career development and mentorship of faculty members.
- Be a recognized expert in the field of surgery, with a strong research and education portfolio.
- Have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Be able to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with multiple priorities and deadlines.
