Qualifications: Education, Training, and Experience

Completion of a recognized Nursing Assistant program, such as a Health Care Aide program, along with a diploma in Community Social Services, for instance, as a Mental Health Worker, Community Health Worker, or Social Services Worker. This includes post-secondary education in counseling skills training or a minimum of two years of recent relevant experience working with individuals facing addictions and/or mental health challenges. Experience should encompass personal care provision, life skills education, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. A solid understanding of psychosocial rehabilitation principles, employing a client-centered approach, is essential. Registration with the BC Care Aide Registry is required, along with a current Level C Basic Life Saving Certificate and a valid Class 5 vehicle license. A Food Safe Certificate is also necessary.

Skills and Abilities
  • Proficient in both oral and written communication.
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining therapeutic relationships with clients, utilizing this rapport to help clients comprehend their conditions and the rehabilitation process.
  • Able to function effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Competent in applying aggressive behavior management techniques.
  • Exhibits sound judgment in alignment with program philosophy, particularly when supervisory consultation is unavailable.
  • Possesses a valid BC Driver's License; if necessary, must be able to obtain a Class 4 Driver's License.
  • Physical capability to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.
  • Adept at operating relevant equipment.
