Job Summary

Island Health is seeking a skilled Mental Health Specialist to join our team in providing high-quality care to individuals in need. As a Mental Health Specialist, you will play a critical role in assessing and treating individuals with mental health and addiction issues.

Key Responsibilities
  • Clinical Assessment and Treatment

You will conduct thorough assessments of individuals to identify their mental health and addiction needs, and develop treatment plans to address these needs.

Crisis Intervention and Risk Assessment

You will provide crisis intervention and risk assessment services to individuals in need, using your expertise to de-escalate situations and ensure the safety of individuals and staff.

Collaboration and Communication

You will work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including healthcare professionals, social workers, and other support staff, to provide comprehensive care to individuals.

Education and Training

You will provide education and training to individuals, families, and communities on mental health and addiction issues, using evidence-based practices and best practices.

Requirements
  • Education and Experience

You must have a Baccalaureate Degree in a health-related discipline from an approved post-secondary institution, and at least two years of recent experience in a related field, such as crisis counseling, paramedicine, or social work.

Skills and Abilities

You must possess excellent interpersonal and clinical skills, including crisis intervention, stabilization, de-escalation, and brief psychotherapy. You must also have strong organizational, problem-solving, and teaching skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with others.

Certifications and Licenses

You must have a valid BC Driver's License and any other certifications or licenses required for the position.
