About the Role

The Clinical Dietitian is tasked with delivering proficient, safe, and ethical nutritional guidance to patients, families, and the broader community. This role involves advising on dietary practices and nutritional needs across various healthcare settings. The Dietitian plays a pivotal role in leading initiatives aimed at enhancing the nutritional well-being of patients, which includes the prevention, identification, and management of malnutrition, as well as implementing medical nutrition therapy through the Nutrition Care Process. The Dietitian also engages in the Dietetic Practicum and Internship program, which encompasses mentoring and supervising Dietetic Students.

The Dietitian is expected to adopt an evidence-based approach in their practice.

As part of the Nutrition and Food Services team, the Dietitian contributes to patient care by collaborating with healthcare professionals, sharing nutritional knowledge, ensuring high standards of care, and supporting a variety of health services. These services are delivered within a holistic, patient-centered framework that aligns with our organizational mission, vision, values, and strategic objectives.

Qualifications

We encourage applications from candidates who possess the following qualifications:


• Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition from an accredited institution

• Completion of a Dietetic Internship Program is mandatory

• Current registration (or eligibility) with the Nova Scotia College of Dietitians and Nutritionists is essential

• At least one year of experience working as a dietitian is preferred

• Experience in inpatient clinical nutrition is advantageous

• Proficiency in managing dysphagia, enteral, and parenteral nutrition

• Experience in patient counseling

• Current WHMIS certification is beneficial

• Proficient in Microsoft Office applications

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills

• Ability to prioritize tasks, solve problems, and perform under time constraints

• Commitment to ongoing education and skill enhancement

• Ability to work both independently and as part of an interprofessional healthcare team

• Competencies in additional languages are a plus

Work Schedule
  • Permanent-Part time, 20% FTE, 15 hours biweekly
