Job Overview: The Chief Executive Officer of Mennonite Central Committee Canada is accountable to the MCC Canada Board through the Board chair, overseeing the comprehensive leadership of the organization's humanitarian, developmental, and peacebuilding initiatives. This role involves collaboration with the MCC U.S. Executive Director to steer the joint MCC International Program, serving as the representative and spokesperson for MCC Canada, fostering understanding and support for its mission among a diverse audience.

Essential Qualifications:

  • An advanced degree in a relevant field and/or significant related experience.
  • Proven administrative leadership in a mission-driven organization.
  • Experience in envisioning, executing, and assessing major organizational initiatives.
  • Knowledge of national constituent denominations and conferences.
  • Acceptance of foundational Anabaptist theological principles.
  • Ability to inspire and lead a large, complex organization with diffuse decision-making.
  • Skilled in promoting MCC Canada’s values of faith, peace, justice, service, and equity.
  • Ability to navigate organizational and theological differences.
  • Membership and active participation in a Mennonite or Be in Christ congregation.
  • Commitment to fostering intercultural competence and building cross-cultural bridges.
  • A favorable police record check upon hiring.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in international cross-cultural programs.
  • Bilingual proficiency in French and English.
Key Responsibilities:

Leadership (30%): Provide visionary leadership in developing innovative programs and support services aligned with MCC's mission, inspiring staff engagement in their execution.

  • Foster strong partnerships within the International Program, collaborating with MCC U.S. and provincial MCCs to create an empowering environment for all staff.
  • Act as a representative of MCC with constituent denominations, inter-organizational relationships, and stakeholders, including national government bodies.
  • Support the governance functions of the MCC Canada Board, ensuring compliance with MCC's identity, purpose, vision, priorities, and values.

Partnerships (25%): Lead meetings with Canadian Provincial Executive Directors, ensuring effective collaboration and trust with the MCC U.S. Executive Director and facilitating regular consultations.

  • Encourage tolerance and act as a change agent within the organization.
  • Travel within Canada and the U.S. for engagement with provincial staff and participation in national gatherings.
  • Travel internationally to connect with MCC staff and local partners, and to gain insights into MCC's work.

External Representation (25%): Engage with the Canadian Council of Anabaptist Leaders and represent MCC Canada on various boards and councils.

  • Participate in advocacy and public policy discussions in Ottawa.
  • Take an active role in national associations and coalitions relevant to MCC's mission.

Governance Functions (20%): Collaborate with the Board Chair and the Moderator of the MCC Canada Delegate Assembly to support governance responsibilities.

  • Prepare comprehensive meeting materials for board and committee governance.
  • Facilitate the creation and approval of board and staff policies as needed.
  • Ensure strategic direction, budget development, and income generation plans are in place.

Challenges: The role may involve occasional overnight travel, long working days, and engagement with a diverse group of stakeholders, including evening and weekend commitments.

Salary and Benefits:

Base Salary: $109,473

Contact and Relationships: The Chief Executive Officer serves as the primary leader for Mennonite Central Committee Canada, embodying the organization's vision, values, and strategic direction. This role involves cultivating relationships with various stakeholders, including provincial and U.S. MCCs, national denominations, and partner organizations.

Supervision: The CEO is accountable to the MCC Canada Board and collaborates closely with the Board Chair, supervising directors across various departments.

Complexity and Competencies: The CEO will lead the implementation of MCC's identity and strategic plans, fostering strong relationships with provincial MCCs and enhancing the mission of MCC Canada.

Independent Action: The CEO will exercise significant independent decision-making to achieve the goals set by the MCC Canada Board, utilizing innovative approaches to meet organizational objectives.

Initiative and Ingenuity: The CEO will demonstrate initiative in strengthening relationships with conference leaders and developing new strategies to engage diverse audiences.

Communication Skills: The CEO must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, effectively conveying MCC's mission and values to various stakeholders.

Mental and Physical Demands: The CEO should be a natural leader, capable of managing diverse pressures and interests within MCC's constituencies.

End Result: The CEO's actions and decisions will significantly impact the organization, ensuring the successful implementation of MCC's mission and fostering strong partnerships.

Location Description:

This position allows for remote work with frequent travel to Winnipeg, a diverse city and major transportation hub in Canada.
